100% Alpaca yarn variegated (multi-)dyed - 100% New Zealand!. Gorgeous colours combined with gorgeously soft alpaca yarn!
The Yarn Story: The alpaca fleece comes from the (white and light cream) alpacas of Flagstaff Alpacas and our friends through New Zealand. Flagstaff Alpacas then skirts, colour confirms and sorts the fleece before it is spun commercially at QualitYarns, Milton, Otago, better known as the 'old mills' about 40 kilometers south of Dunedin!
The individual touch is then added: Doe Arnot designs colour mixes for the 4-ply, 8-ply and boucles each season. These are hand-dyed by Doe and Flagstaff Alpacas. After dyeing the yarns they are cooled before being washed to clear any remaining dye. When dry they are re-hanked into 100 gram hanks, colour match confirmed with our colour card designs, and then hand-labeled. If a match of colours is not correct those yarns are reassessed for a new fresh colour batch mix. Hence, the colour schemes and cards are continually evolving ... although fairly slowly as few of Doe's mixes are not Doe perfect!
